Welcome to our Holiday Edition!

Can you believe that 2011 is already drawing to a close? We've had a really busy and productive first 3 months of our dance year, and all our students are really looking forward to the Holiday show on December 10. Thank you to all our students for working so hard on their routines for the show.

We are still seeing cars parked on grass areas and the verge of River Road. Please stick to the parking plan as posted.

A reminder to all students that tuition fees are due by the first class of each month. To avoid being charged a $5 late fee we encourage all families to sign up for automatic payments, or you can give us post-dated checks for each month.

The “Holiday Stars 2011” show is upon us!

Just days to go until our annual Holiday show. A lot of people have asked for confirmation of the time and venue, so to ensure that everyone knows when and where the show is, here are all the details you need:

  • Date: Saturday December 10

  • Time: 10:00 a.m.

  • Venue: CK Burns School, 135 Middle Street, Saco

  • 9:00 a.m. : Volunteers arrive

  • 9:15 a.m. : Doors open for Saturday morning classes for final run-through

  • 9:30 a.m. : Doors open for everyone else

The show starts at 10:00, and should take no more than 1 hour. The pot luck will be over by 12:00. There are still a limited number of tickets available. They will be on sale in the studio all week during scheduled class times. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. Students do not need to purchase tickets, and children under 3 are admitted free. All proceeds benefit local charities.

After the show we'll have a pot luck lunch in the school cafeteria. If you have not yet signed up for the pot luck, please do so immediately, or email us with what you're going to contribute (savory, sweet or drinks). Please drop off your pot luck items and Secret Santa gift in the cafeteria as soon as you arrive. If you're bringing an item that requires dishing up, please bring whatever is needed to serve the item (e.g. dishing up spoon), as there are no utensils at the venue to do this. We will make power available if you need to plug anything in to keep warm.

For an extra bit of excitement for the children, this year we'll be running a Secret Santa. Everyone has already been sent an email detailing who they're buying a present for. If you didn't receive the email, please let us know as soon as possible so we can send the details to you again. Please don't forget to bring your gift on Saturday, as it will be very upsetting to any child who doesn't receive a present on the day.

Thank you to all those who volunteered to help on Saturday. All volunteers will see the entire show, and as a thank you for volunteering, we will be giving preferential seating for volunteers and their guests; you will still need a ticket to see the show. We will be contacting the volunteers closer to the show with details of their assignments for the show.

Please look out for the raffle basket in the studio this week. It is jammed full of lovely goodies from Yankee Candle and thirty-one. This is part our charity fundraising drive for the show, so please contribute generously. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 10, and are available in the studio and the front desk of the show on Saturday.

Holiday Show Costumes

Many of you have been asking about the costumes, hair and makeup for the holiday show. We have bought costumes for some classes, while other costumes are made up of ordinary dance or day-to-day clothes you'll be supplying yourself. We have created a list detailing exactly what costumes are required for the show, and have attached it to this email. Light makeup may be worn for the show. Although bathrooms are available at the venue for changing, it will be easiest if students arrive in costume for the show. Only students in more than one number should need to change.

Dress to Impress

We have a lovely assortment of consignment clothing on display in the studio. There are sweatshirts, t-shirts, exercise pants, bumper stickers and other fun gifts, all dance-themed and very stylish and colorful. They will be available in the studio this week and next, and at the Holiday show. Most items can be ordered if your size is not available.

Costume Measuring begins Monday December 12th

We start measuring for costumes on the Monday after the show. Every class will have a separate costume form that will include all the measurements required for that class's costume/s. If you are not going to be in class the week following the show, please let us know so we can email you a costume form.

Our Food Fundraiser was a hit

Well done to all of you who lowered your costume bills by getting orders for the Joe Corbi food fundraiser. Confirmation that the food will be available for collection from 1:00pm on Wednesday December 14thPlease collect your items as soon as possible to prevent food spoilage.

Vote for our New Logo

We placed and open invitation in the internet for professional graphic artists to help design our new logo, and we received almost 50 designs from around the world! We have narrowed the entries down to the 3 that we think best reflect the feel and image of the studio. Now it's your chance to vote for your favorite logo. Please go to http://tinyurl.com/taodlogo to place your vote. Only one vote per student please (multiple votes per family are allowed if you have more than one student registered!). We will select a name from those who voted for the winning logo. The winner will receive a prize at the Holiday Show on December 10th.

Happy Holidays!

Warwick and I wish all of you a joyous and peaceful festive season. We feel honored to be working with such a wonderful group of students and parents, and thank you all for your dedication and effort over the year. Good luck to all our students performing at the Holiday show; you've worked hard to make it a success, and we look forward to getting together again in the New Year to start working towards our competitions and June recital.
