Welcome!
I am very pleased to welcome you to The Academy of Dance and delighted that you’ll be joining us.  We are a rapidly growing studio, but still small enough that we know each of our students by name.  The Academy of Dance is proud to be the only studio in Maine to offer Spanish Dance.

My goal in teaching has always remained the same:  to offer quality, small classes at reasonable prices and teach dance in a fun, creative way, making sure that each student comes away with confidence, technique and a great dance experience.  We are known to be the friendliest studio around.  The Academy does not simply teach one dance number for the entire year; the emphasis is to learn to dance.  We look forward to teaching you too!

Our teachers
Caroline Nunes started dancing at the age of two.  She earned her degree in dance at Pretoria University in South Africa and has toured professionally with such companies as Danza Lorca and Jose & Helena Montoya in South Africa, England, Austria and Spain.  She has also danced for the Pretoria State Ballet.  She previously owned The Academy of Dance in New York.  She thoroughly enjoys teaching Ballet, Tap and Lyrical, as well as Flamenco.

Nyree Young teaches at area studios and previously operated her own studio.  A creative and experienced choreographer, Nyree teaches Irish Step dancing (solo) as well as traditional Irish Ceili dancing (group).  This year, Nyree will be adding Belly Dancing to our studio offerings.

Cassandra Meagan has been dancing for 20 yrs with experience in many genres of dance. She has taught Hip Hop for several years at various Southern Maine studios.  She is currently a student at Southern Maine Community College where she is studying Communications and New Media. Cassandra travels to Manhattan every summer to study and progress her dance technique to its fullest at the "Broadway Dance Center". She has also been the choreographer for many award winning cheerleading teams. Cassandra performs throughout the US and has recently taught workshops in Canada, where she was also hired to judge national dance competitions.

Rosebeth Wilson is a dedicated teacher with varied training to teach a broad range of dance forms.  Rosebeth teaches Ballet, Tap and Jazz. We are pleased to welcome Rosebeth to the Academy of Dance.

Holidays & Cancellations
The Academy of Dance follows the calendar and bad weather cancellation policy of the Biddeford school system.  Snow cancellation notices appear of Channels 6 & 8, you can also check these channels’ websites for cancellations.

Directions
From Route 1, Biddeford, heading South, at the light, take a right onto South Street, (Papa John’s Pizza will be on your left) go approximately 2 miles until you reach a fork in the road and bear left onto River Road.  The studio is located 0.2 miles on the left at 25 River Road.

Recital Costumes
Fundraisers are held to offset recital costume costs.  Any unpaid balances can be paid in monthly installments in October, November and December.  For many students, the fundraisers offset the complete cost of costumes.  The cost of each costume falls between $35 and $60.

Five things all parents should know before enrolling their children in dance class.

1. Is it a family friendly environment?
Our family friendly studio includes a double glass-viewing door, so you can always see your child.  No need to wait for “observation days”.  Siblings are welcome; we have coloring, toys, etc to keep them occupied.  We have plenty of off-street parking for all our students.

2. What is the class size?
Our studio limits all our classes to a maximum of 14 students.  Most classes are smaller.  Students benefit greatly from the extra attention, they learn more, and have more fun.  We have all heard the horror stories of 20-25 students in a class, and the teacher doesn’t even know the student’s name!  Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed, and insure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique.

3. No hidden costs.
At The Academy of Dance, we pride ourselves in keeping the costs of dance as low as possible and being upfront about all costs.  We offer optional, easy fundraisers for free costumes, low recital costs, etc.  We also give a free studio T-shirt at the beginning of the year for students registering before July 15th and an end of year recognition medal to each student.  Compare our total cost with other local studios, (e.g.: costumes, recital tickets, photos as well as tuition) and you will see that we are the most affordable dance studio around.

4. Availability of Management.
At The Academy of Dance, we are here to address your concerns and answer your questions in a timely fashion.  We also keep you updated by monthly newsletters, both printed and online.

5. Opportunities to perform.
We offer many opportunities for even our youngest students to perform.  Competition classes are available, and in addition to our year-end recital, we perform at Funtown/Splashtown and the La Kermesse Parade.
