About Us

The Academy of Dance is one of York County's longest established Dance studios, with locations in Biddeford and Wells.  The 2018-2019 season is the studios 15th year in business.  Our highly trained instructors are passionate about their classes and students.

Our goal in teaching has always been to offer high-quality, small classes at reasonable prices, and to teach dance in a fun and creative way.  We want every student to learn confidence and technique, and to have a great dance experience.  We believe that all our students are shining stars, and this is reflected in the high number of students who re-register each year.  We look forward to teaching you too!

Owner Amanda Braley has a love for children and the art of music and dance.   It began when her oldest Brianna started at the Academy of Dance at the age of 2.   It has grow as Danika and Alexis joined the Dance family.  Even her husband Nate has been spotted on stage dancing with his daughters and in the Nutcracker.  We are fortunate to have a loving, talented and energetic staff and excited to meet you and your family.

Amanda and husband Nate run the studio, and are blessed with 3 beautiful daughters - Brianna, Danika and Alexis.

Our Classes

We offer a wide range of child and adult classes in Creative Movement, Rhythm & Movement, Acro, Mummy & Me, Pre-Dance, Tap, Ballet & Pointe, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical.  New this season we have added Pound, and offer private and semi-private classes.

Our curriculum is always growing, and every year we add more classes to cater for our growing student numbers.  Please let us know if you want to see other dance classes offered!

Some of our dance styles are offered as part of Combination classes, where 2 dance styles are taught within one class.  These classes are a great opportunity to learn more than one dance style, while benefiting from great pricing and only having to attend one class a week.  Each dance style is performed as a separate routine at Recital.

Performances and Competitions

The studio holds two performances each year, where every student gets to perform on stage in front of family and friends.  Our Holiday Show is held in mid-December, and for the past few years we have presented a full Production of the Nutcracker (click to view a video highlight).  All students regardless of age get to perform.  Our June recital is a production that shows off all the hard work put in by our students over the year.  All our performances are held in a first class venue with production sized stage and theater style seating.
Competition teams have additional opportunities to perform during the year, including dancing at Competitions, Sports Events (e.g. Portland Sea Dogs) and special events (like The Christmas Tree Lighting and in special town events).

Costumes

Costume costs vary depending on the number of classes and the type of class (Combo classes have one costume for each dance style).  Costume selections are finalized by the end of the calendar year, and are payable shortly after.  We offer a number of fundraising opportunities to help towards costume costs.  Costumes are not ordered until they are paid for in full.
